Viola M. Irwin, 88 of Alexandria left this life to her Heavenly home on July 6, 2021, in Summitville Health and Living Center, Summitville.
Viola was born in Fisk, MO on July 20, 1932, and was the daughter of Wesley M. and Mary M. (White) Cannell.
She was loving and gracious mother and grandmother, she always enjoyed spending time with her family. wonderful caregiver to her husbands and family.
She faithfully attended the New Day Baptist Church and the Vermillion Friends Church both of Alexandria. She was a member of the Madison Co. 4-H, the Home Extension Club, Ladies Discovery Bible Study, she had been a former Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Small-Town Garden Club.
Left to carry on Viola’s legacy of love are her children, Joesph (Jane) Miller, Jerry (Sue) Miller, Vickie (Vince) Griffin-Beardsley, Linda (Andy) Gerstorff, Cyntha (James) Jackson, and April (Billy) Darnell; two brothers, Ralph Cannell and Donald Cannell; a sister, Anita Dorris. Also surviving are her 19 grandchildren and 74 great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joesph H Miller, Harold L White, Woodrow Cooper, and William Irwin; a son, John Rodrick Miller; brothers, Melvin Cannell and LeRoy Cannell; sisters, Margret Sneed, and Mary Jane Markum.
A service to celebrate Viola’s life will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour on Saturday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the New Day Baptist Church, 202 W Tyler St., Alexandria, IN 46001 or the Vermillion Friends Church, 2961 E 800 N, Alexandria, IN 46001
