Samuel Russell (Sam/Rusty) Duncan, 61, passed away Sunday evening Oct. 23, 2011 at the Waters Nursing Home, Greencastle, IN following an extended illness.
He was born on June 12, 1950 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Amos Paul and Stella Louise (Henderson) Duncan.
Samuel (Sam/Rusty) married Cheryl Highsmith-Condor on June 8, 2007, who survives.
Samuel attended Pennville High School and lived most of his life in Jay County.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1967to1969 as a radio operator and was honorably discharged.
He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, West Terre Haute, IN and The Club Soda of Terre Haute, IN.
Surviving are one daughter Freedom Schumacher, Mesa, Ariz., and one son Derek Duncan, New York and one step-daughter Holly (Condor) St. John, Terre Haute, IN., also; two brothers, Paul F. Duncan (wife: Sandy) Mesa, Ariz., Larry A. Duncan (wife: Sue) Albany, IN., and one sister Mary Lou Duncan-Botts (husband: Charles) Redkey, IN., and six nephews and five nieces.
A celebration of Rusty's/Sam's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at the Christ United Methodist Church in West Terre Haute, IN, Pastor Barbara Clodfelter will officiate the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A memorial service for Sam/Rusty will be held locally on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Redkey United Methodist Church in Redkey, IN. with Pastor Randy Davis officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Inurnment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Dunkirk, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 3401 S. 4th St, Terre Haute, IN. 47802 or Military Veterans in care of the Redkey United Methodist Church
