Ross T. Silvey, 79, of Alexandria, IN, peacefully departed this life on January 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and cherished friends at Community Hospital in Anderson after an extended illness.
Born on September 28, 1945, in Alexandria, Indiana, he was the oldest child and son of Herbert and Camilla (Foreman) Silvey. A proud graduate of the Alexandria High School Class of 1963, Ross continued his journey of life by marrying his beloved wife, Sherry (Garretson) Silvey, on September 26, 1987.
Ross dedicated 36 years of his career to General Motors, where he held various roles, including Tool Maker, Committeeman, and Health and Safety Representative for the UAW. Ross was honored to receive the Walter P. Reuther distinguished service award in 1993. His commitment to his work was complemented by his deep ties to the community; he was a valued member of Pleasant Valley Community Church in Middletown.
As a husband, father, and grandfather, Ross exemplified love and dedication, relishing every moment spent with his family. His multifaceted talents were evident through his passion for woodworking, music, and songwriting. He was known for his ability to create beautiful pieces with his hands and for sharing his musical gifts through guitar playing and singing.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sherry Silvey; daughters Shannon (Mark) Talmage and special beloved grandson Devan Talmage of Alexandria; Gayle Mason of Houston, TX; and her children, Joshua Bir, Alisha Vetter and Zachary Reed and grandchilren,Memphis, Piper, Conrad, Addison, Ellie May, and Hunter; and Michelle Williams and family of Boston, MA. Also surviving are his Special sister, Teana (Dan) Gray and Teresa McCullough as well as his good friends Ed Stitt, Jason LeMaster and Tracey Rhodes along with several nieces, nephews, and loving cousins.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, JaNell Brown and his favorite ex-husband in law Tim Maxwell.
A celebration of Ross’s life will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, located at 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria, with Rev.J. Rick Biven,D.D. officiating. Family and friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the same day.
