Phyllis Ann DiRuzza, 72 of Alexandria died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 in Community Hospital after a sudden illness.
Phyllis was born in Portland, IN on Oct. 4, 1946 and was the daughter of Merle and Jess (Clear) McClung. On Jan. 21, 1968 she married Michael DiRuzza who survives.
For over 50 years she was the co-owner with her husband and parents of the Alexandria Bakery. She retired from the bakery in 2001.
She was a member of the Church of St. Mary’s, a 50 year member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority.. Phyllis always enjoyed spending time with her family, working crossword puzzles and was avid Indianapolis Colts fan.
Left to carry on her legacy of love, are husband, Michael, sons, Brad (Jenny) DiRuzza, Andy (Nichole) DiRuzza, her daughter, Lee Ann Jordan and sister, Sally (Dan) Sandefur-Hill. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Noah DiRuzza, Oliva DiRuzza, Eli DiRuzza, Ella DiRuzza, Jack Jordan and Cooper Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Jess McClung.
A service to celebrate Phyllis’s life will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019 at 11:00 am in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria with Fr. Dan Duff as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Rosary Service will be held on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Alexandria Firefighters Local # 1649 Flower Fund, 212 S Harrison St., Alexandria, IN 46001.
