Phyllis L. Cox, 92 of Alexandria died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Community Hospital, Anderson after a brief illness.
Phyllis was born in Carmel, IN on Oct. 13, 1919 and was the daughter of Roy and Lyda (Williams) Lamb. On Oct. 10, 1938 she married David Cox.
Phyllis was a co-owner with husband David of Cox’s Supermarket in Alexandria for many years. She was also a loving Mother and Grandmother to her family.
Phyllis was a member of the Union Chapel Community Church where is had been the church organist for over 50 years and a former Sunday School teacher. She had been a former 4H leader and held memberships in several community organizations.
Surviving is her Sons, Kay (Sue) Cox and John (Beverly) Cox both of Alexandria, Phillip (Debbie Stone) Cox of Muncie. Also surviving are her Grandchildren, Angela (James) Rose, Erica (Neal) Brown, Lance Cox and Jessica Cox and her Great-Grandchildren, Jacob, Josephine, Kylie, Ashlee, Shellie, Bryan, Faith, Katelyn, Benjamin and Tristan.
She proceeded in death by her Parents and her Husband, David Cox in 2004.
A service celebrating Phyllis’s life will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Union Chapel Community Church with Rev. Michael Thompson officiating. Entombment will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Friday, April 20, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Union Chapel Community Church or the Gideons International, P.O. Box 629-W, Muncie, In 47308 or in care of the funeral home.
