Paul R. Ellis, Jr., OD of Englewood, FL and a former Alexandria resident was called home to be with our Lord on Nov. 27, 2011 at his residence on Manasota Key after a sudden illness.
Dr. Ellis was born in Alexandria on May 29, 1933 and was the son of Paul R. and Esther (Crist) Ellis, Sr. Dr. Ellis was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School and Indiana University where he received his Doctorate of Optometry.
After college he joined the United States Navy serving as a Lieutenant in the medical corp. After returning home from the Navy, Dr. Ellis opened two optometry offices in Highland, IN and East Chicago, IN and practiced in both communities until his retirement in 1975.
After his retirement he cherished the time he spent with his parents at their lake home in Syracuse, IN and their home in Englewood, FL.
He is survived by four uncles, Herschel (Nancy) Crist, Harry Ellis and Richard Ellis all of Alexandria and William Ellis of Anderson. One aunt, Hilda J. Johnson of Elwood. Also surviving are several cousins and nieces and nephews.
Dr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 6, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria with Rev. Chester Smith officiating. Interment will follow.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
