Norman Parr

Norman Richard Parr, 86 of Alexandria died Sunday, September 07, 2014 at his residence while in the company of his loving family.

Norman was born in Curtisville, IN on May 3, 1928 and was the son of Harry F. and Elsie (Hillan) Parr. On Oct. 2, 1954 he married Mary L. (Hand) Parr.

Norman was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and served in the Indiana National Guard at the rank of Master Sergeant.

Norman was a well know area businessman, along with his wife, Mary he owned and operated the Fashions in Flowers located in Anderson and Alexandria, also the St. Croix Wedding and Catering of Alexandria. Norman was retired from Delco Remy in 1993 after 29 years of service. He had served as Arch Bishop of the Old Catholic Church of North America for several years before his retirement and for the past 17 years he was employed at Whetsel Funeral Service.

Norman was a member of the Church of St. Marys, Alexandria Service Club, Elks Lodge #478, Eagles Lodge Aries 1771, Alexander Bright Post 87 of the American Legion all of Alexandria and Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, Knights of Columbus both of Anderson.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years Mary (Hand) Parr, his daughter, Karen (Sid) Smith, a sister, Roberta Yohe. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Adrian L (Kevin) Heflin and Jeremy M. (Heidi) Quinn, great-grandchildren, Jared Quinn, Kara Quinn and Kendall Quinn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harry F. Parr, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 am in the Church of St. Marys with Fr. Dan Duff as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Whetsel Funeral Service on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. A Rosary Service will be recited at 7:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Alexandria Fire Dept. Flower Fund, 212 S. Harrison St., Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
