Nicola George DiRuzza, 84 of Alexandria died Saturday, February 21, 2015 in Community Hospital, Anderson after an extended illness.
George was born on Feb. 22, 1930 in Mammaroneck, NY and was the son of Benito and Lucia (Campone) DiRuzza. On Sept. 3, 1955 he married Theresa R (Mercorelli) DiRuzza.
He was retired from Foster Forbes Glass Co. in Marion, IN. and he served his country during the Korean War serving with the United States Navy. George was a master electrician by trade.
George was member of the Church of St. Mary’s, Alexandria, Alexander Bright Post 87 of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge Aries 1771, Alexandria and Joseph’s Helper of St. Mary’s.
George was a loving and caring father and grandfather and always enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Theresa R. DiRuzza, his sons, Nicola G. “Nick” (Mary Ann) DiRuzza, II and George L. (Melody) DiRuzza, his sisters, Gloria DiRuzza and Linda (Dan) Tischleder. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Mario (Blair) DiRuzza, Maria (Anthony) Schultz, Lew DiRuzza, Andrea DiRuzza, Adrienne DiRuzza, Sarah DiRuzza and Ben DiRuzza and his great-grandchildren, Kelden, Christian, Sophie, Gavin, Dominic and Myles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Tony DiRuzza and Bennie DiRuzza and a sister, Mary Jo Trice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary's, 816 W Monroe St., Alexandria with Fr. Dan Duff as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy and Elwood VFW Post 5782 . Friends are invited to call at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. A Rosary Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Joseph’s Helper of St. Mary’s or the St. Mary’s Building Fund, 816 W. Monroe St., Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
