Mary Jane Smith, 90 of Summitville died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 in the Summit Health and Living after an extended illness.
Mary Jane was born in Summitville on May 6, 1929 and was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Hendrix. She married Lawrence Smith on June 7, 1947 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2003.
She retired from Thompson Consumer Electronics after 34 years of service. After her retirement she worked at the Alexandria Care Center for 10 years and was a nanny for seven years for the Crouch family.
Mary Jane was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She always loved to spend with her family and making great memories with them.
Left to carry on Mary Jane’s legacy of love is her daughter, Laura Eastman, her grandchildren, Darnell (Nick) Felty and Chad (Lindsay) Eastman and Missy (Brian) Watson; her great-grandchildren, Kaden, Ollie, Cole, Barron and Arie. Also surviving is her former daughter-in-law Connie (Mick) Hardy, special friends, Debbie and Bob Crouch and Abby and Bryant Crouch and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence, a son, Lawrence “Hank” Smith, Jr. and a grandson, Lawrence Smith III.
A service to celebrate Mary Jane’s life will be on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Bud Whetsel as Celebrant. Burial of Cremains will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 pm.
