Mary Louise Parr, 90 of Alexandria died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Chesterfield after an extended illness while in the company of her loving family.
Mary was born in Flint, MI on June 29, 1926 and was the daughter of Don. M. and Zema M. (Vermillion) Hand. On Oct. 2, 1954 she married Norman R Parr, who preceded her in death in 2014.
She was a member of the Church of St. Mary’s and Women’s Service Club of Alexandria.
Mary was a graduate of the International Business College in Ft. Wayne and was formerly employed as an executive secretary at Delco Remy, Anderson. From 1957 to 1965 she was co-owner with her husband of Fashion in Flowers in Anderson and Alexandria. Mary later retired from Toles Flowers as a floral designer.
Mary was a loving mother and grandmother. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her family and the host of friends of her family.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Karen A. (Sidney) Smith of Anderson, her grandchildren, Adrian (Kevin) Heflin and Jeremy Quinn both of Alexandria, her great-grandchildren, Jared Quinn, Kendall and Kara Quinn, and her brother, Kenneth (Jean) Hand of Alexandria.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman and brother, Robert Hand.
A service of remembrance will be Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Bud Whetsel officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alexandria Toy Drive, % Terri Brenner, 804 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, IN 46001 or the Alexandria Firefighters Flower Fund, 212 S Harrison St., Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
Mary’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Miller’s Merry Manor, St. Vincent-Anderson 6th Floor nurses and staff and the Alexandria Fire Dept.
