Martha Ines (Simons) Gillespie, 79 of Alexandria died Nov. 2, 2013 in Community Hospital, Anderson.
Martha was born in Anderson on May 9, 1934 and was the daughter of Chester and Nellie (Miller) Simons.
Martha retired from Delco Remy after 44 years of service. After her retirement she worked as a door greeter at Wal Mart.
She was a very passionate, kind, courageous and a very loving Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. She was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed watching her grandkids, they brought her great joy. She loved keeping in touch with her beloved friends; Bernice Snider, Fred and Delores Miller, Tommie Jewel and her sister Eva Smith. One of her greatest joys was spending her days with her only daughter; Pam Simpson who she loved dearly and enjoyed her trips to the casino with her daughter.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Pam (Rick) Simpson, sister, Eva Smith, granddaughters, Cindy (Doug) Hieatt, Karen (Eric) Sexton; grandsons, Josh (Alison) McPhearson, Daniel (Kimera) Hartman, Ricky Simpson and fiancé, Jessica Davenport. Also surviving are her great-grandkids, Kaylee Cummins, Colton Hieatt, Elise Brandow, Todd Hieatt, Trey Hieatt, Cameron and Haleigh McPheason, Hayden Hinton, Addison Hartman and Brooklyn Simpson. A special nephew, Art(Spud) (Jeanie) Thompson and may beloved friends and neighbors.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Cynthia Gillespie, a son, Douglas Gillespie, Sisters, Frances Griffith, Emmie Towles, Mary Sharp, brothers, Frank Simons and Fredrick Simons.
Funeral services will be on Friday, Nov, 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Joyce Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
