Marilyn K. Cox, 77 of Alexandria died Saturday, August 08, 2015 in the Alexandria Care Center after a brief illness.
Marilyn was born on July 25, 1938 in Alexandria and was the daughter of James R. and Emma L. (Durr) Humphries. She was married to Chester Cox who preceded her in death in 1989.
Marilyn was retired from CVS Pharmacy, Alexandria where she was employed as a Pharmacy Tech for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria.
During the many years that Marilyn was a resident of the Alexandria Care Center she was elected as President of the Resident Council, organized many of the residents activities, such as bake sales, Christmas decorating and parties. She was the Good Will Ambassador for the Care Center to all the new residents helping with getting them and their families settled in.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Jeff (Debbie) Tomlinson of Baltimore ,MD, her daughters, Terra (Grant) Conway of Morristown, TN and Angela (Randy) Benner of Daleville, IN, a sister, Doris Hawkins of Grand Rapids, MI and a niece, Cheryl Fetz of Wyoming, MI. her aunt, Alberta Garner. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Grant (Amanda) Tomlinson, Stephen (Kelly) Tomlinson, Thaddeus (Brittany) Tomlinson, Blake Benner, Breanna Benner, Brittnie Benner, Shawn (Megan) Benner, Scott (Tonya) Conway, Joseph Conway; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Tomlinson, Corye Benner, Christopher Johnson and Charlisha Benner, Gavin Tomlinson, Haley Tomlinson, Ellianna Tomlinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Chester Cox, Son-in-law, Ronald Young and great-granddaughter, Addison Tomlinson.
A service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service,1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria with Rev. Michael Deutsch officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Whetsel Funeral Service on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the American Diabetes Assn., PO Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720 or Alexandria Care Resident Activity Fund, 1912 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
Marilyn’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Alexandria Care Center for the excellent care and the Hospice Group Indianapolis.
