Lewis D. Cox, 83 of Alexandria died Monday, July 4, 2016 at his residence after an extended illness while in the company of his loving family.
Lewis was born in Orestes on July 10, 1932 and was the son of John C. and Gertrude (Keefe) Cox. On March 19, 1955 he married Donna Maxine (Smith) Cox. He attended the Orestes Baptist Church.
He served his country during the Korean War serving in the United States Army.
Lewis was retired utility man from Delco Remy of Anderson.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years Donna Maxine Cox, two sons, Darrell D Cox and Dannie D Cox both of Alexandria, two daughters, Della (Harold) Lovett of Anderson, Debra M. (Tim) Stone of Alexandria; a brother, Herbert Cox of Alexandria. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Heather Carr, Whitney Cox and Brandon Cox., and great-grandchildren, Owen Redder, Alyssa Redder and Brian Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leslie Cox.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2:00 p. m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Edsel Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, Elwood. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and Elwood VFW Post 5782. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
