ALEXANDRIA: Larry R. Scott, 80 of Alexandria, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Dec. 25, 2018 at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis after an extended illness.
Larry was born in Alexandria on May 29, 1938 and was the son Richard G and Pearl M (Crum) Scott. On Oct. 18, 1959 he married Karen M (Cunningham) Scott. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School and the Indiana College of Mortuary Science.
Larry had been a licensed funeral director for 50 years. He started his career with the Rozelle Funeral Home in Anderson. He then joined John Noffze for 35 years of serving families in the Alexandria and Summitville area. After a brief retirement, he joined the staff at Whetsel Funeral Service where he continued his service of compassion for the many families who have come to depend on him in their time of need.
Prior to his career in funeral service, Larry owned and operated his insurance agency and monument business and helped his father with a shoe store and candy shop.
Larry was a loyal and faithful member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church. He also held memberships in the Madison Co. Funeral Directors Assn and the Indiana Funeral Directors Assn., Alexandria Kiwanis and a former member of the Jaycee’s.
There was two main passions in Larry’s life, his family whom he loved adored and always enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, his other passion was working at the funeral home , always checking on every detail and making sure that the families were well served and greeting his many, many friends who called at the funeral home.
Those left to carry on Larry’s legacy of love and devotion is his wife of 59 years, Karen M (Cunningham) Scott, his daughters, Brenda (Monty) McMahan of Arlington and Amy (Tom) Cox of Goshen; his sisters, Donna Welborn of Anderson and Judy Lane of Alexandria. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sydney Cox, Faith Cox, Mateo Cox, Scott McMahan and Ricky (Michael) Shackleford and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Peyton Rene' Cox.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S Park Ave. Alexandria with Rev. Michael Deutsch as Celebrant. Cremation will follow. Friends are invited to call at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S Park Ave, Alexandria on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave. Alexandria, IN 46001or in care of the funeral home. Or to a Charity of the Donor's choice.
