Karen Marie (Cunningham) Scott, 78, of Anderson, was called home by her Heavenly Father on December 16, 2019 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus, Anderson after an extended illness.
Karen was born in Alexandria on April 15, 1941, the daughter of Eldred Monroe Cunningham and Alice Virginia (Good) Cunningham Trout. She married Larry Richard Scott on October 18, 1959. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2018.
She graduated from Alexandria High School Class of 1959.
She was very active in Girl Scouts and achieved the rank of Curved Bar the highest rank available in Girl Scouts during that era. She was a loyal and faithful lifetime member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church. She was a former member of Tri Kappa Sorority and Jayshees in Alexandria and Anderson.
Throughout her life Karen was employed at several locations in Madison County. These included Community Hospital in Anderson, Real Estate Sales with Laughlin Realty, J.C. Penney at Mounds Mall, Certified Nursing Assistant and Activities Director at Fall Creek Retirement Village and Vermillion Place where she retired in 2018.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Arthur M. (Bud) Trout, sister Phyllis J. Weighous, stepsister Joyce Ann Teague, and granddaughter Peyton Rene Cox.
She is survived by her daughters Brenda (Monty) McMahan, Arlington; Amy (Tom) Cox, Goshen; grandchildren Scott McMahan, Rushville; Ricky (Michael) Shackleford, Camby; Sydney, Faith, and Mateo Cox, Goshen; Sister-in-Laws Judy Lane, Alexandria and Donna Welborn, Anderson; several nieces nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and many friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2:00p.m. in the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave., Alexandria. Friends are invited to call at the Church from 12:00p.m. to time of service.
