ANDERSON: John R. Ulicne, Jr. 87 of Anderson died Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 in Community Hospital after an extended illness.
John was born in Fredrickstown, PA. and was the son of John R and Ella (Oysersek) Ulicne, Sr.. On July 4, 1953 he married Trudy (Golembiewski) Ulicne who preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2018.
John worked as a pipe fitter iin skilled trades 35 years. He worked at Chrysler Corp.in Detroit, MI. for five years and then retired from the Ford Motor Co.in Livonia, MI after 30 years of employment. In his earlier years he was a Gentleman Farmer, raising cattle, sheep and chickens. He loved to garden vegetables and flowers after his retirement.
John proudly served his country during the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. While in Korea he was awarded two Purple Hearts, Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars.
He was a life member of the VFW in Anderson and a member of the Church of St. Mary’s in Alexandria.
Surviving are his sons, John A. (Linda) Ulicne and Mark (Sandi) Ulicne; a brother, Edward Ulicne and a sister, Joyce (Steve) Galatic. Also surviving are his grandchildren, John C (Rita) Ulicne, Alena Ulicne and Nadia Ulicne; his great-grandchildren, Alyssa and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2801 Lincoln St., Anderson with Monsignor Robert Sell as Celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in the Marion National Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Wednesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
