John Russell Broeg, 82 of Victoria, TX and a former Anderson resident went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at his residence after an extended illness.
John was born in Burlington, IA on Sept. 1, 1933 and was the son of Edward and Mabel (Winegarden) Broeg. On April 15, 1956 in Burlington, IA he married Betty (Donaldson) Broeg.
He attended Anderson College and received his Masters of Anthropology Degree from Ball State University.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Victoria, TX.
John served his country for 25 years in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. After his retirement from the Air Force, John was called to ministry and pastored the B.A.S.I.C. Church in Anderson, IN for 38 years.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty, three daughters, Penny Zion, Kelly (Scott) Strole and Roxanne (Terry) Lyons all of Anderson. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tiffany (Seth) Cartwright, Kimberly (Jay) Jackson, Steven (Lacey) Strole, Nicholis Broeg, Aaron Zion, Crystal (Jason) Griffith, Andrew Zion, Christin (Kenny) Rushing, Seth Strole and Asher Strole; great-grandchildren, Ashton Keesling, Gavin Ashby , Mya Jackson, Raven Zion, Maci Jackson, Presley Cartwright, Kara Jackson, Stryker Rushing, Garrett Griffith and Colyn Griffith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, a sister and a great-granddaughter, Liza Joy Jackson.
Funeral services for John will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 815 School St., Anderson at 1:00 p.m. with Bud Whetsel officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson. Friends are invited to call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 815 School Street, Anderson, IN 46012 or in care of the funeral home.
Service arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria.
