Jerry J. Bassett, 81, of Alexandria, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Born on February 1, 1942, in Anderson, IN, Jerry was the beloved son of Roscoe L. and Mildred (McCarty) Bassett. A proud graduate of Alexandria High School, Class of 1960, he embarked on a journey of love and commitment when he married Georgia (Harris) Bassett on September 8, 1961.
Jerry dedicated many years of hard work to General Motors, Anderson, and retired in June of 1996. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, where his faith played a significant role in his life. He was a supporter of Purdue Basketball.
Described as an all-round good person, Jerry was known for his willingness to help others. His family brought him immense joy, and as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, held a special place in his heart.
Left to carry on his legacy of love are his wife of 62 years, Georgia, and his sons, Greg (Christina) Bassett, Chris (Alexis) Bassett, and Tim (Rebecca) Bassett. Jerry is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Bassett.
