James “Jim” E. Barton, 78 of Alexandria passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at Edgewater woods in Anderson, after an extended illness.
Jim was born in Alexandria June 22, 1945 and was the son of George A. Barton Sr. and Lillian R. (Howerton) Barton. Jim served his country as a member of the National Guard. Jim also retired from Guide Lamp in Anderson after 35 years of service.
Jim’s passion was working on cars and he was an excellent mechanic. He enjoyed watching racing, live and on TV and taking scenic drives. He could easily be persuaded into playing a card game or shooting pool in his man cave with his buddies.
Jim was also a member of the NRA and the Eagles Lodge in Alexandria and was a member of the Church of St. Mary.
Survivors include one son James Barton II, one daughter Jennifer (Jerry) Hunt. Two granddaughters, Jeri (Derik) Rutan, and Heidi Powers. Four brothers, George Barton Jr., John (Judy) Barton, Harry Barton, Patrick (Connie) Barton. Three sisters Shirly (C.T.) Ridenour, Marian Richardson, and Rita Copeland. Several nieces and nephews, Special friends; former wife Anita Barton, Tom (Shannon) Adams, Brian Daffron, Bopper, Tim, Ice, and all the gang.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lillian Barton. His first wife, Loretta (Hosier) Barton. A grandson Billy W. Galbreath and a sister Mary Ann Barton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday August 17th at the Church of St. Mary, located at 820 W Madison St. Alexandria, IN 46001 with Fr. Tom Metzger as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. cemetery with military rites.. Friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday August 16th from 6pm to 8 pm at Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, 1503 S Park Ave, Alexanderia .and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of St. Mary, 820 W Madison St, Alexanderia 46001.
