Helen Loudean Underwood, 78, of Anderson and formally of Greenfield passed away on September 10, 2024, at Community Hospital in Anderson after a courageous battle with an extended illness.
Born on November 10, 1945, in Shelbyville, Indiana, Helen was the beloved daughter of Bruce C. and Allie D. (Ferguson) Anderson. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a strong work ethic, having been employed as a bookkeeper and more recently at Get Go in Anderson. Helen was also deeply committed to her community, serving as a dedicated volunteer at Operation Love in Anderson.
A strong advocate for personal growth and support, Helen took pride in her 35 years of membership in Alcoholics Anonymous, where she made lasting connections and contributed positively to the lives of many.
Helen is survived by her son, James Edward (Alexandra) Thomas, and her daughter, Kari (Ray) Petruch. She leaves behind her cherished sisters, Karen S. (Bill) Roehling and Barbara J. Schuyler, along with six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bruce Wayne Anderson.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, located at 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria, IN 46001. Rev. Joe Wood will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation for friends and family will take place on the same day from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
