Helen R. Lustig, 96 of Aurora, CO. and former Alexandria resident died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 in the Denver Hospice Center, Denver, CO. from injuries suffered in automobile accident.
Helen was born in Terre Haute , IN on Sept. 23, 1917 and was the daughter of John H. and Philomina (Bockman) Hellmann. On Sept. 21, 1934 in Tipton, IN she married Al Lustig, who preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1998.
Helen was a home maker for her husband and children and part owner with her husband in Al and Jerry’s Grocery in Alexandria.
Helen was a member of the Church of St. Marys and the Alexandria Lioness Club.
Left to cherish her memory are her four sons, Kenneth (Connie) Lustig –Colorado Springs, CO, James (Gwenda) Lustig- Greensboro, NC, John (Pam) Lustig-Carmel, Joseph (Jan) Lustig-Carmel; two daughters, Mary C. (Duane) Freund-Denver, CO., Trudi Lustig-Aurora, CO.; two brothers, Gilbert (Ella) Hellmann and Leo(Joann) Hellmann; three sisters, Henryetta Day, Mary Joan (Paul) Koors and Patricia (Mo) Parr. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al Lustig, seven brothers, John Hellmann, Louis Hellmann, Linus Hellmann, Franklin Hellmann, Raphael Hellmann, Jerome Hellmann and Patrick Hellmann, two sisters, Rosemary Howell and Sister Kathryn Hellmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Sat. Nov. 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Marys, 820 W. Madison, Alexandria. Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A Rosary Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. Mary’s Building Fund, 820 W Madison, Alexandria or in care of the funeral home.
