H. Calvin Blanton, 68 an awesome man with an endless smile, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 29, 2018 after a courageous fight to overcome his extended illness.
Calvin was born in Salem, Indiana on Dec. 2, 1949 and was the son of James W and Bessie E (Disney) Blanton. He was a graduate from Salem High School. On April 17, 1971 he married Denise Ann (Daggy) Blanton who survives.
His joy was his 11plus one children along with his 19 plus 1 grandchildren.
Calvin served his country with the United States Army and received a Purple Heart while serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion.
He was retired from the Norfolk & Southern Railroad as a Signal Maintainer after 49 years of service.
He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Denise A. (Daggy) Blanton, his children; Christopher (Rachel) Blanton, Angel Blanton Miron, Mathew (Kelly) Blanton, Eric (Judy) Blanton, Randal (Jessica) Blanton, Mark (Kara) Blanton, Brent (Rachael) Blanton, Joshua Blanton, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Blanton, Luke (Brenda) Blanton, Tyler Blanton and Debbie Clabaugh; his grandchildren; Colton Blanton, Bralynn Blanton, Emma Blanton, Adrianna Miron, Lindsay Blanton, Garrett Blanton, Reece Blanton, Grant Blanton, Mary Blanton, Gabriella Blanton, Micheal Blanton, Logan Blanton, Gabe Blanton, Jace Blanton, Isaac Blanton, Hallee Blanton, Eli Blanton, Kelso Blanton and Corbin Clabaugh. Also surviving are his brothers, Johnny (Fern) Blanton, Charles R. (Patricia) Blanton and Joseph C. Blanton; his sister-in-law’s; Cynthia (Tom) Blanton, Susie (Ben) Miller and brother- in -law; Robert( Judy) Pyles.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James W Blanton and Roy L Blanton, Sisters, Barbara E Crabtree and Anniebell Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018 in the Church of St. Mary’s, 820 W Madison, Alexandria at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Dan Duff and Fr Paul Cochran as Celebrants. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Gardens of Memory, Muncie. Friends may call at St. Mary’s Catholic School Gymnasium (Please use the south entrance) on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A Prayer Service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. to begin the visitation time.
