Floyd Darrell Garner, 91 of Alexandria died Monday, November 28, 2011 surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness.
Floyd was born in Gas City, IN on May 9, 1920 and was the son of Leroy and Leona (Duncan) Garner. On May 17, 1941 he married Ethel (Carmichael) Garner.
Floyd retired from the Johns Manville Corp after 38 ½ years of service.
He was a devoted attendee of the Main St. Wesleyan Church in Elwood and the Johns Manville Quarter of Century Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 70 years, Ethel (Carmichael) Garner, a Daughter, Marcia (Dallis) Small of Alexandria, Grandchildren, Danielle (Jimmy) Brenner of Alexandria and Shea (Susie) Mills of Simpsonville, SC., Step-Grandchildren, Rhonda (Mike) Hood of Ohio and Chris (Mara) Small of Florida, Step-Great Grandchildren, Morgan and Alex Brizendine, Devon Ousley, Deanna Moreno and Brian (Julie) Greene. And his special Great-Granddaughter, his little angel, Jessica Jordan Garner Greene.
Also surviving are his Brothers, Ron (Darlene) Garner of Alexandria and Ralph (Opal) Garner of Alexandria, Sisters, Elvada DiRuzza of Alexandria and Dorothy Haulter of Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, three Brothers, June Garner, Charles Garner, Loren Garner and a Sister, Phyllis Pittenger. And was welcomed into Heaven by his Great-Granddaughter, Bailey Rebecca Grace Greene.
A service celebrating Floyd’s life will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Ronald Becker officiating. Burial will follow in the Jefferson Cemetery, Upland. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
