Elvada Louise DiRuzza, 96 of Alexandria died Thursday, July 12, 2018 in the Summitville Convalescent Center after an extended illness while surrounded by her loving family.
Vada was born in Grant Co., Indiana on Mar. 31, 1922 and was the daughter of Leroy and Leona (Duncan) Garner. She was married to Samuel Jones, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1945 she then married Jack DiRuzza who preceded her death in 1998.
She was retired from the VA Medical Center, Marion where she employed as the Laundry Supervisor.
Vada was a member of the Church of St. Mary’s and the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Phyllis) DiRuzza and Sue (Larry) Hueston, both of Alexandria; daughter-in-law’s, Elaine Jones of Peachtree City, GA and Virginia Jones of Marion; brother-in-law, Jerry Pittenger of Gaston; her brothers, Ralph (Opal) Garner and Ron (Darlene) Garner, both of Alexandria; sister, Dorothy Haulter of Kokomo. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Susan (Bud) Whetsel, Rick (Beth) Hueston, Cathy (Mike) Warren, Chris (Robin) Jones, Justine (Robin) Jennings, Jay (Lisa) Jones, Brad (Jenny) DiRuzza, Andy (Nichole) DiRuzza, Lee Ann Jordan, Robin (David) Beardsley, Jimmy (RaeBethe) Jones and 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Samuel Jones, Sr. and Jack DiRuzza, sons, Joseph Jones, Paul Jones and Sam Jones,Jr., brothers, Floyd Garner, June Garner, Loren Garner, and Charles Garner and sister Phyllis Pittenger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary’s with Father Dan Duff as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. A Rosary Service will conclude the visiting hours on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
