Elsie M Vannatta, 94 of Anderson and formerly of the Moonsville area died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 at her residence after an extended illness.
Elsie was born in Alexandria on July 4, 1925 and was the daughter of Elmer and Nora (Reser) Street. After the death of her parents, she was raised by her sister, Beulah Reck. She was a graduate of Alexandria High School, Class of 1943. On Feb. 15, 1946 she married Harold V. Vannatta and he preceded her death on Feb. 27, 2010.
She retired from Delco Remy in 1981 after 35 years of service. Elsie was a member of the UAW 662 and the Vermillion Friends Church. Elsie was the caretaker of her sister Dorothy Street for past several years.
Elsie was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who always enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling and camping.
Left to carry on her legacy of love is her children, Richard (Becky) Vannatta, Carl Vannatta, David Lee (Shelly) Vannatta, Bobbie (Wayne) Bissen and Betty (Mike Durant) Vannatta; and sister-in-law, Betsy Vannatta; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, brothers, Merle Street and Virgil Street, sisters, Beulah Reck, Emily Massey and Dorothy Street.
A service in memory of Elsie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020 in Whetsel Funeral Service located at 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria with Rev. Aaron Hargis officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are directed to the Vermillion Friends Church, 2961 E 800 N, Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
