Edgar “Ed” F. Leach, a beloved member of the Alexandria community, passed away peacefully on September 9 2024, at the age of 91, surrounded by loved ones at Bethany Pointe Health Campus after an extended illness.
Born on October 14, 1932, Ed was the cherished son of Pete and Ellen P. (Riall) Leach. His journey through life was beautifully intertwined with that of his wife, Mary (Disbennett) Leach, whom he married on June 23, 1951. Together, they created a legacy of love, family, and adventure.
For many years, Ed was a self-employed plaster artist in Alexandria, known for his remarkable craftsmanship. His artistry graced numerous homes throughout the region, leaving a lasting mark on the community he loved. Ed’s skills were not just a profession; they were a passion that brought beauty to many.
A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Ed also spent 27 years as part of the Gold Wing Riders Association. Alongside Mary, he embraced a zest for life that saw them travel nearly 250,000 miles on their cherished Gold Wing Trike, creating countless memories along the way.
At heart, Ed was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who found immense joy in the company of his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Ed is survived by his children, Ken (Martha) Leach and Deborah Johnson, as well as grandchildren Nicci (Gus) Rosen, Brian (Shannon Lynn) Leach, and Tabitha Suman. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, including Jessica (Jonathan) Combs, Caitlin (Michael) McIntyre, Darius Vogleman, Damek Vogleman, Bailey Suman, Macenzie Suman, and Jayden Suman, and great-great-grandchildren Aubrey Combs, Keira Combs, Rhylan Combs, Andrew McIntyre, Elijah McIntyre, and Lincoln McIntyre.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary, son-in-law Michael Johnson, siblings Albert and Frank Leach, sister Lori Janene Southwick, and granddaughter Serena Rosen.
To honor Ed’s remarkable life, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel in Alexandria, with Rev. Randy Murphy officiating. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation from 4:00 p.m.to 6:00 p.m. on the same day.
