Dorothy Whittemore

Dorothy M Whittemore, 84 of Alexandria died Thursday, Mar. 29, 2018 in Community Hospital.
Dorothy was born in Arkansas and was the daughter of Walter and Florence (Breeden) Sowell. On June 19, 1955 is married Robert A. Whittemore who survives.
Dorothy retired in 1996 as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie after 20 years of service. She was avid baker and was well known for her cakes, pies, cookies, candies and her chicken and noodles.
Dorothy was a faithful member of the Church of St. Mary’s and the Daughters of Isabella and the Gilman Extension Homemakers. She volunteered at the Summitville Convalescent Center where she would read to the patients.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of over 62 years, Robert A. Whittemore, her children, Robert L (Cathy) Whittemore, Bill (Michelle) Whittemore and Dottie (Bill) Tynes, her brothers, Cloyce Sowell and Ray Sowell. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Joyce Davidson, two brothers, Gene Sowell, Jerry Sowell, two sisters, Ethel Wheeler and Faye Sneed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary’s, 820 W. Madison St., Alexandra with Fr. Dan Duff as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Jones Cemetery, Yorktown. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday. A Rosary Service will be held on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Church of St. Mary’s, 820 W Madison St., Alexandria, IN 46001 or through the funeral home.
