Donald R. “Don” Lemon, 87 of rural Anderson died Monday, Nov. 12, 2023, at his residence after an extended illness while in the company of his loving family.
Don was born in Alexandria, Indiana on Dec. 4, 1935, and was the son of Glen R and Mamie (Langford) Lemon. On June 22, 1956, married Shirley R. (Lugenbeal) Lemon who survives.
He served on the Alexandria Police Department for 20 years and retired from the City of Alexandria after serving as the Wastewater Manager for 10 years. Don served in the Indiana National Guard obtaining the rank of Staff Seargent
Don was an avid fisherman. However, his greatest joy in life was his family. His children and grandchildren were golden to him, and he always loved spending time with them all.
Those left to carry on his legacy of love is his wife, Shirley R. Lemon; his children, Marilyn (Perry) Garmon, Carolyn (Jeff) Smith, Bradley (Patty) Lemon and Brian (Nicole) Lemon. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bethany Lemon, Haley Harris, Robert Lemon and William Lemon, his great-grandchildren, Cayden, Asher and Mason. Other survivors include his sister, Linda Lawson and sister-in-law, Betty Lemon and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald Michael Lemon; brothers, Robert Lemon, Gene Lemon; sister, Eileen Scott.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria with Bud Whetsel as celebrant. A burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria with Military Rites by the Indiana National Guard and Elwood VFW Post 5782. Friends are invited to a gathering of family and friends on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
