David E. “Dave” Wilson 81, of Alexandria left this life on June 9, 2023, at his residence after an extended illness surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born in Elwood, IN on May 14, 1942, and was the son of Robert and Jean (Martin) Wilson. He was a graduate of Frankton High School. On Feb. 19, 1990, he married Merri (Myers) Wilson, He attended the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene.
Dave was a self-employed businessman for over 50 years. Over the years he has owned several businesses, starting out in construction, Wilson Automotive, his family business in Elwood. For the last 35 years he owned and operated the General Store in downtown Alexandria, where he provided valuable services and groceries for area residents and candy for the little ones. It wasn’t uncommon for people to confide in him and seek his wisdom and his caring help. When the store was closed due to his illness and now his passing has left an incredible void in the community. He will be missed by his faithful customers and friends. Dave enjoyed traveling and shopping and watching his grandkids play sports, traveling to watch them wherever they played.
Left to carry on his legacy of love is his wife, Merri (Myers) Wilson, his children, Joseph Lawson, Davenna (Aaron) Hoff, Danielle (Jason) Jones and Khrista Lawson; his brothers, Dan (Tina) Wilson, John (Joyce) Stone and Bill (Les) (Sharon) Veres. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Braelyn, Kylie, Taylor, Kaydan, Blake and four great-grandchildren, Bransen, Dayten, Scarlett and Wilsen.
A service to celebrate Dave’s legacy and life will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, Alexandria with Rev. Dan Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in Elwood Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit the funeral home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
