Dale Edwin Washburn, 58 of Alexandria died unexpectedly Sunday, December 07, 2014 at Community Hospital, Anderson.
Dale was born on Jan. 21, 1956 in Anderson and was the son of Ray L. and Wilma J. (Hurst) Washburn. He was a 1974 graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School. After high school Dale attended Purdue University where he received a Certificate in Livestock Sciences.
Dale grew up on the Washburn family farm and continued the family farming tradition along with his brother Tim. Dale held a special love for raising cattle and other livestock. Area farmers would often come to him for help and consultations for their livestock. Shortly after graduating high school, Dale invented a pizza at Pizza King and was honored when Pizza King named it after him as the Washburn Pizza.
He was a member of the Christian Congregation Church, Alexandria.
Dale is survived by his brother, Tim (Christy) Washburn of Alexandria, his sisters, Beverly Washburn of Alexandria and Peggy (Ed) Torok of Murfreesboro, TN. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was also known affectingly as Grandpa Dale by Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray L. and Wilma J. (Hurst) Washburn.
Funeral services for Dale will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Christian Congregation Church, 11015 N 300 E, Alexandria with Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
