Charles R. (Doc) Cook, Sr. 76 of Alexandria died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019 at his residence after an extended illness while in the company of his loving family.
Charlie was born in Paoli, IN on Oct. 10, 1943 and was the son of Charles Junior and Anna (Condra) Cook. On Oct. 21, 1961 in Cook’s Chapel he married Nancy (Gilleatt) Cook.
He was retired from Westinghouse Electric and later ABB of Muncie after 32 years of service. He was a member of Swan Lake Club in Bradenton, FL.
Charlie was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his vacation time in Florida, watching Mariah playing ball, and gambling at the casino. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loyal Fox News viewer. Charlie was always making TO Do Lists for anyone in the family, especially for his sons Troy and Rick.
Left to carry on his legacy of love is his wife of 58 years, Nancy, sons, Rick (Merle) Cook, Jr., Troy (Angie) Cook; daughter, Anita (Geoff) Payne. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Amber Turner Fields, Kristina Cagle, Charles Richard (Destiny) Cook III, Mariah (Jessie) Gossett, great-grandchildren; Alex Cagle, Bryghton Fields, Decker Glenn Gossett, Simon Meraki Cook. Sister; Opal (Clyde) Stine, Sister-in-law; Robin Brown, brother-in-law; Robert Tabor, special friend, Marge Barnes and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paulin Tabor, Jim Cook, Lawrence Cook, Dorothy Earnhart, Novi Cook, Lester Cook and Justin Cook.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Bud Whetsel as Celebrant. Cremation will follow the service. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to the Professional Firefighters of Alexandria Local 1649 Flower Fund, 212 S. Harrison St., Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
