Carroll McCune

Carroll E McCune, 89 of Alexandria died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 in Community Hospital, Anderson after an extended illness.
Carroll was born in Summitville on July 20, 1926 and was the son of Ollie and Bessie (Robertson) McCune, Sr.
Carroll served his country during the Korean War as a Staff Sargent in the United
States Army.
He had worked for General Motors for a short while, as well as Kilgore’s Standard for many years then he owned and operated Carroll’s Service Center for a few years. He retired in 2000 as the Shipping-Warehouse Supervisor at Resin Partners/US Leisure in Alexandria.
Carroll was a member of Alexandria Elks Lodge #478 where he was Exalted Ruler six times. He fill all the chairs and was also secretary, treasurer, and also Trustee for the lodge. He was Past President of the East District of the Indiana Elks Association and was Secretary of the District for nine years. He was appointed by the Elks Grand Lodge to represent the Indiana East District as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for 1993-94. He was also State Director for the Indiana Elks Association. He served as a Elks Ritual Judge for 18 years. He was Past President of the Alexandria Lions Club and a member of Alexandria Eagles Lodge Aries 1771, Anderson Amvets 692 and Alexander Bright Post 87 of the American Legion.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Greg (Michelle) McCune of Summitville and Cheryl (Tim) Retherford of Anderson. His grandchildren, Holly (Scott) Griggs and Noah (Nancy) McCune, his great-grandchildren, Madison, Jake, Cadince, Hunter, Kyan and Hadley. Also surviving is his longtime companion, Mary Weaver and several nieces and nephews.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marty, bother, Ollie McCune, Jr., sisters Mary Clem, Vivian Hague, Mae Allen and granddaughter, Casey Retherford.
Funeral services for Carroll will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria with Bud Whetsel officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the U.S. Army and Elwood VFW 5782 .Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. The Alexandria Elks Lodge 478 will conduct the Lodge of Sorrow Ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The family wants to extend their appreciation to the third floor nurses at Community Hospital and Community Hospice Care for all of their kindness and assistance.
