Barbara J Swindell, 92 formerly of Alexandria died Thursday, July 25, 2019 in Traditions of Solana, Indianapolis after an extended illness.
Barbara was born in Summitville on Aug. 21, 1926 and was the daughter of Francis and Hilda (Mikels) Wright. She married Chester Cullen and after his death she later married James Swindell who also preceded her in death.
Barbara was employed for 30 years as the Assistant Actives Director at the Summitville Convalescent Center. She was an active member of Joyce Chapel United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.
She always loved helping people. While she resided at the Harter House in Anderson she would led weekly book studies for the other residents. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always enjoyed spending time with her family.
Left to carry on her legacy of love is her daughter, Connie (Tom) Rich and her son, Monty Cullen; her granddaughter, Alexandrea (Scout) Bove and great-grandson, Nash Bove. Also surviving are two nieces, Rhonda Hall, Pebbles (Bushong) Blanchard and three nephews, Vance, Duane and Bruce Wright.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Cullen, her second husband, James Swindell, a step-son, Danny Swindell, a brother, Jack Wright and a sister, Betty Bushong.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria with Rev. Rick Vail officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon to 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Indiana Chapter, 9075 N. Meridian St., Suite 150, Indianapolis, Indiana 46260 or in care of the funeral home.
